N'Stars field LAX teams in action again at Halton Hills

The Owen Sound North Stars girls’ field lacrosse teams were back in action at the Trafalgar Sports Park in Halton Hills this weekend.

NORTH STARS UNDER-19 ELITE

The Owen Sound North Stars under-19 elite squad competed in the Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse B Division tournament Saturday, winning all four games en route to the championship.

The N’Stars first dispatched Brampton 18-4 with goals by Kennedy Stauffer (5), Karly Low (4), Jill Goldie (4), Taylor Chegahno (2) Tara Meikle, Francesca Alpajaro, and Kennedy Coghlin.

Owen Sound then topped Oshawa 19-2 with goals from Kennedy Stauffer (7), Taylor Chegahno (5), Jill Goldie (3), Karly Low, Tara Meikle, Kennedy Coghlin and Emma Bryan.

In the semifinals, Chegahno led the way as Owen Sound outran Orillia 18-8. Chegahno notched five markers while Stauffer (4), Goldie (3), Coghlin (2), Low, Meikle, Alpajaro, and Grace Vokes added tallies.

The N’Stars then beat Kitchener-Waterloo 25-16 in the championship final. Stauffer (7), Chegahno (5), Meikle (5), Low (4), Coghlin (2), Alpajaro and Goldie all scored in the contest.

Owen Sound will return to Halton Hills Saturday for the final weekend of OWFL tournament action.

NORTH STARS UNDER-15A

The Owen Sound North Stars under-15 A team went 3-1 at the OWFL tournament in Halton Hills this past weekend.

In the first game, the North Stars topped Oshawa 14-6 before narrowly edging out Kawartha 10-8.

Against Orangeville in the weekend’s third contest, Owen Sound won by a score of 18-11.

Finally, a single marker proved the difference as Kawartha topped the N’Stars 18-17.

Alexa Todd played between the pipes in all four games for Owen Sound. Goal scorers for the games were Brooklyn Doyle (17), Edyn Beyer (11), Laine Nissen (10), Taryn Lee (6), Madison Playter (5), Aliyah Bonterre, Aleida Nelson (3), Grace Smyth (1), Emma Cooper (1), and Liesl Stata(1).

NORTH STARS UNDER-13A

The North Stars fell in the championship contest in Halton Hills this past weekend.

The North Stars opened the weekend tournament with a win over top-ranked Oshawa, 8-5. Goals were scored by Avery Seaman, Megan Nisson, Rory Jex, London Doyle and Taryn Weppler.

In Game 2, Owen Sound topped Oakville 11-4. Goals scored by Bree Wilkins, Taryn Weppler, Megan Nissen, Rory Jex and London Doyle.

The team then beat Kitchener-Waterloo 9-3 in the semifinals with goals by London Doyle, Bree Wilkins, Megan Nissen, and Taryn Weppler.

In the championship contest, Owen Sound lost 8-4 against hometown Halton Hills with goals scored by Taryn Weppler, London Doyle and Bree Wilkins. Dassi Clock, Danielle Brown, Lauren Neil and Adalyn Jackson all played strong for the N’Stars on the backend while Dani Wilkie backstopped the team in goal.

NORTH STARS UNDER-13B

The North Stars under-13B club went 3-1 over the weekend in OWFL tournament action including a win in an overtime thriller.

The N’Stars topped Hamilton 9-3 in the opener with goals by Mya Good (2), Lilly Shute (2) Jenna Cranney (2), Ella Todd, Charlotte Fox and Addison McCoubrey.

Owen Sound then beat Newmarket 8-4. Ella Todd and Lilly Shute each scored a pair while Cranney, Fox, Good and Ainsley Smith all added markers. Annabelle Evans stood tall in the net.

Cranney scored in overtime in the semifinal to send the N’Stars into the championship over hometown Halton Hills.

However, in the championship contest, Oshawa handed the N’Stars a hard-fought 9-4 defeat. Shute added another pair in the championship contest and Evans made several highlight-reel saves for the N’Stars.

NORTH STARS UNDER-11A

The Owen Sound North Stars under-11A club won all four games at the OWFL tournament in Halton Hills over the weekend and came home with a championship.

Owen Sound first topped Orangeville, 7-1, led by Ella Todd’s four-goal effort.

The N’Stars then topped Kawartha 8-0 with Harper Lines notching the shutout in net.

Owen Sound then beat Kitchener-Waterloo in the semifinals, 3-1, to earn a berth into the final contest.

In the B Division championship, Owen Sound edged the Toronto Beaches 9-7 with seven markers netted by Todd. Briar McCoubrey and Reese Holman each scored.

Lines played all four games between the pipes.

NORTH STARS UNDER-11B

The North Stars under-11B club is still chasing an elusive first win, but continuing to learn the game in tournament action at Halton Hills this past weekend.

The North Stars went 0-3, dropping games to Kitchener-Waterloo, 5-1, Toronto Beaches 7-0, and Orangeville 9-1. Quinn Norton scored both goals for the North Stars.

The North Stars return to Halton Hills again this coming Sunday for the final weekend of OWFL play with an 0-5-2 record on the season and continue to practice Monday and Thursday at Victoria Park in Owen Sound.
